CaseWare Australia
& New Zealand do not specifically recommend or support using
Working Papers with DropBox as it has not been tested enough by CaseWare nor
does DropBox have any specific integration with CaseWare. Therefore we advise
any customer who is contemplating using DropBox to thoroughly test it and
develop appropriate procedures for staff to minimise the likelihood of data
loss before it is rolled out for extensive use by their staff.
This is by no means an
exhaustive list, however, some things you might like to consider are:
- It does not facilitate
concurrent multi-user access to a file.
- Users need to communicate
hand-off of a file to other users for it to work successfully as DropBox
folders are personal folders which would not be shared between users.
- Dropbox will generate a lot of
Deleted/Created file events if Save Compressed is used and for this reason
mentioned above, it may not make sense to use it for live files.
- It may be best used to transfer
files between users or one office and another
Whilst we understand
some firms are using DropBox successfully, you will need to make sure it works
for you and if you have any queries with DropBox functionality or performance,
you will need to contact the DropBox support team. You should also
ensure that you have a robust backup of all CaseWare files to be able to
recover from file corruption if it occurs.
