Error Opening File - Error reading file contents are corrupted

This error message indicates that CaseView was not closed properly the last time, and the document's contents could be corrupted.

Error Opening File - Error reading file contents are corrupted

This error is likely caused by:
  • Computer crashing whilst in the middle of a CaseView document
  • Shutting down a computer whilst the CaseView document is still open
  • Inadequate network connections can also cause a file to shut down incorrectly
Solution:

If data has been corrupted, the user may need to restore the BAK file from the engagement file's location.

1. Locate the CaseWare engagement file's directory within Windows Explorer and find all .bak files. Specifically you are looking for a file named *engagementname*0000002TCWIF.bak

2. Remove the old corrupted CaseView document *engagementname*0000002TCWIF.cvw

3. Change the extension of the *engagementname*0000002TCWIF.bak to be .cvw. This will restore the previous backup of the financials and get you up and running again
