How to correct the IDEA display?

Issue: 

With the introduction of 4K and other high-resolution monitors, especially on smaller displays and laptops, the IDEA display can be negatively affected. Some elements, including buttons, dialogs, and grid items, maybe sized incorrectly. 

 

Resolution:

 

IDEA does not support DPI scaling (Windows 7) or display scaling (Windows 8.1 Update and

Windows 10). For high-resolution monitors/screens, it is recommended to adjust the screen

resolution for legibility.

 

In Windows 10, the user may enable the Override high DPI scaling behavior option. In the Properties for IDEA.exe OR in the Properties of a shortcut for IDEA.exe.

  • Go to Compatibility

  • Change high DPI settings

  • Check the Override high DPI scaling performed by option. This will enable the dropdown beneath where the System should be selected. 

For earlier versions of Windows (8.1 and 7 SP1), the adjustment above may not be available. As such, some experimentation with screen resolution may be required.
